Shallipopi at Irving Plaza

Crown Uzama, otherwise known as Shallipopi, is a skilled rapper who shot to fame with his hit single "Elon Musk". Hailing from Nigeria, the rapper has cooked up a unique niche. Taking both the digital world and music scene by storm, Shallipopi is an incredibly talented singer who has penned the catchy "pluto" slang. In 2021, Shallipopi made his mark in the industry when he dropped the viral track "Gra Gra." The success of that killer tune was raised even more when he unleashed his smash hit "Elon Musk." The tune became an instant sensation, shooting him into the limelight and setting the stage for even more wins (hello "Sharpiru"). Shallipopi switched things up when he collaborated with Fireboy DML and Zlatan to drop his remix of "Elon Musk." This strategic move made his listener base even bigger, scoring the star his first #1 hit with "Ex-Convict."

Fast forward to 2023 and his debut EP, Planet Pluto, climbed to the coveted #1 place on the charts. The mixtape starts things off with the Afro Piano piece “Obapluto.” This first track features log drums and samples Osemwegie Ebohon’s Theatre Troupe rendition of the old Benin folk tune “Oba Ovoranmwen”. Benin language set amongst the backdrop of an Amapiano-inspired beat, coupled with Shallipopi signature catchy hooks sets the tone for the rest of the EP.
