The award-winning gospel rapper, Kevin Burgess, aka KB, is bringing his Glory Nights: The Image of God Tour to the stage of the legendary Irving Plaza on September the 25th.
Known as an outlier in hip-hop, and his impassioned and astute lyrics which resonate on not just a physical but spiritual level with fans, and audiences. KB has created quite the name and reputation for himself as not just a Christian hip hop artist but artist in general. His energetic and electrifying concerts have acquired quite the following and garnered both critical and commercial acclaim, making this show one you do not want to miss!
As a young man who dabbled in drugs, KB struggled to find himself, but eventually rediscovered his faith and identity in music. Today, he is using his amazing talent to spread a message of hope and redemption to those whose souls are crying out for relief.
A message from KB: “I’ve intentionally crafted and curated this GLORY NIGHTS TOUR: THE IMAGE OF GOD to be unlike any other concert experience. In times like these, people don’t need just another tour. I’ve invited my friends nobigdyl., Limoblaze, and WHATUPRG as co-conspirators to create an evening that’s the essence and epitome of celebration, community, and a call to purposefulness. I’m also inviting a special guest in each city to join us on-stage and make each night more unique and one of a kind.”
Born in a military family where rap music was forbidden, KB found himself secretly listening to the genre and finding relief in that form of musical expression. After his parents' divorce, which forced him and his mother into a poorer and rundown neighborhood, a younger KB struggled to find his identity as well as fit in, resorting to drugs and all kinds of illicit behavior all while spiraling out of control.
“To me, resistance carries with it a certain posture,” KB says. “The only way to deal with an unfree world is to become so absolutely free that your very existence is an act of rebellion.”
Ironically, it was the same music that was once forbidden by his family, which pulled KB from his spiral and set the foundation for his faith.
After discovering Christian rap, KB later on went on to study theology in Brazil, eventually forming an alliance of Christian rappers and poets known as His Glory Alone(HGA). HGA later went on to attract the attention and admiration of record label Reach Records, which was co-founded by award-winning Christian hip hop artist Lecrae.
Since his signing, KB has built a name for himself in the Christian Rap music scene. He has won several awards and nominations, which include a coveted Dove award and several Grammy nominations.
Perhaps what has made him such a fantastic artist is his versatility in blending elements of both rock and hip hop into his music. His deeply moving lyrics share personal struggle, societal issues and the ability to navigate through all those challenges while coming out on top.
Fans can expect another remarkable performance from KB on the 25th of September 2024, taking place in The Big Apple, New York City, at the legendary and iconic Irving Plaza, which has hosted many notable artists such as Lecrae, Needtobreathe and For King & Country.
