The Irving Plaza, located in the Village in south Manhattan and right off of 15th street by Union Square, is so excited to welcome Hope Tala to the stage on Thursday May 1st as she embarks on her Hope Handwritten Tour, featuring thirty dates all over the world that will see Hope go to Berlin, Colorado, both weekends of Coachella, and of course - right here in New York City. So, who is Hope Tala?!

Hope Tala is a British singer and songwriter who floats between the genres of Neo-Soul, Bossa Nova, and R&B at ease. Though she only released her first official album, Hope Handwritten, this February, Tala has been tearing up the scene since 2018. Her first single Blue came the same year and preceded her EP Starry Ache, which featured the song Lovestained as well. Lovestained went on to be named one of The Rolling Stone’s top 50 songs of 2019, and saw Hope’s popularity rise exponentially. Following the release of her 2020 song “All My Girls Like To Fight”, Hope saw international acclaim - interviews followed, a spot on Barack Obama’s favourite songs of 2020, and she soon signed to her current label, Republic Records all within the same year - and right around when she declined to pursue a master’s degree at Cambridge.

Tala told Wonderland Magazine that “I grew up on good stories, and have always been driven by a desire to craft my own. Writing ‘All My Girls Like To Fight’ was the first time I felt like I was really constructing an expansive narrative in a song. I wanted to create a visually rich tale steeped in drama and intrigue to match the suspenseful Spanish guitar chords we started with in the studio, and wanted to portray women as having strength and agency in the narrative,”. And since then - Hope has been giving us amazing visuals and worlds to jump into through her music! Her debut album also has made waves, and we can’t wait to see the world she creates as we see her journey around the globe for the first time! Irving Plaza is happy to welcome Hope to the stage, and we can’t wait to welcome you all, too!
