Decibel Magazine Tour: Mayhem, Mortiis, Imperial Triumphant & New Skeletal Faces at Irving Plaza

“Following the success of last year’s tour with the legendary Cannibal Corpse, we are really looking forward to returning to North America to once again headline the renowned Decibel Tour, also hitting some cities we haven’t visited in a very long time,” Mayhem collectively stated at the tour announcement. “We can’t wait to kick off the next chapter of Mayhem with our North American fans. See you all soon!”

Mayhem has been pioneers of the Black Metal genre since their formation back in 1984. And they have played to all the stereotypes, including a nice bit of controversial history. But through the years it has been their groundbreaking music, oh, and probably their unparalleled live performances, that have kept them pushing boundaries, and set them up as mainstays on the tour circuit, with nearly 1000 shows and over 60 countries in their rearview mirror.

Oh, and if you're hoping for some new, fresh, music... think again... you're only going to get the blackest of black! "Yes, you can." bassist Jørn "Necrobutcher" Stubberud said in an interview. "Teloch (guitarist, Morten Bergeton Iversen) and Charles (the other guitarist, Edward Alexander Hedger) have presented some demos — both of them presented over 10 songs or 10 skeletons — so (they have) presented almost 20 songs. And I listened to everything, and some of it is really fucking good. So, after the Australian tour, I guess — no, some of us are going to go on some tours with some other bands. But in March 2025, I think, we're going to get together and start to hammer out this thing. By 2025 we should have been able to enter the studio. And then, hopefully, it would be cool to have it out in 2025. That would be a goal, but we'll see. But definitely 2026. And then, of course, we'll be heading out [on] a new world tour to promote it, I guess."

Irving Plaza is a fascinating, ballroom-style, music venue located within the Union Square neighborhood of Manhattan in New York City. And, as a rock destination, it has been putting on the loudest and riffiest of Rock gigs since as far back as 1978. With renovations completed in 2022, the venue now boasts a capacity of 1 200 screaming mosh-pitters plus, improved sight lines, and a shmansy-fancy VIP Lounge.
