BBC host Mark Lamarr once introduced Buzzcocks' frontman Pete Shelley in his program saying "without Buzzcocks there'd be no Smiths or Radiohead..." Influential and instrumental in breaking new grounds, setting up the landscape, and defining the genre of what we now call 'punk rock' music, the Buzzcocks were one of the first few Manchester-based bands to emerge as underground headliners from the burgeoning London punk scene, then leading up to global commercial success and iconic status.

In 1977, Pete Shelley regrouped what was left of the initial lineup of the Buzzcocks with the 'classic lineup' composed of Shelley as singer-songwriter, Steve Garvey on bass, Steve Diggle on guitar, and John Maher on drums. Together, they recorded an EP titled Spiral Scratch, and released it through their own label - New Hormones, noted as the first indie record label established in history.

In between grueling tours, member disagreements, and departures, the Buzzcocks have managed to come up with a wealth of songs that not only garnered significant chart action but have made an indelible mark on how punk rock has evolved and influenced countless bands to come. Buzzcocks' hit punk essentials include the UK top ten hit “Ever Fallen In Love (With Someone You Shouldn’t Have Fallen In Love With)”, “Orgasm Addict”, “Promises”, “You Say You Don’t Love Me”, “What Do I Get”, “I Don’t Mind”, among many others. One of their treasured discographies is the 1979 single compilation “Singles Going Steady”, is a landmark album cited by music journalist and critic Ned Raggett as a "punk masterpiece".

The Buzzcocks have sustained the sharp, solid, and crunchy energy for over four decades. The untimely demise of founding member Pete Shelley in 2018 did not dampen their spirits yet even vowed to carry on the torch, with Steve Diggle taking over the lead vocalist duty.

“I am going to raise the mast & set the sails for the next voyage of the good ship, Buzzcocks” – Steve Diggle
