Irving Plaza
Trap and hip-hop are always welcome at the Irving Plaza. It doesn’t matter if the main language for this night is Spanish. Venezuelan sensation Big Soto is bringing his “Soturius” Tour to Union Square on Sunday, December 8th. There’s no question that Big Soto has established himself as one of the top names in Spanish hip-hop. He’s mostly renounced traditional Latin beats and instead uses Spanish lyrics with a typical hip-hop base. What changes is that he’s singing in Spanish! If you’re a fan of any type of hip-hop and trap, this is a show that you’re going to be able to enjoy.
Big Soto is known for mingling with the crowd at his live shows. If you’ve been to the Plaza, you know that the venue’s gonna fit him like a glove. Big Soto started in the freestyle world and rap battles in the streets of Venezuela when he was in his teens. That environment allowed him to develop his style. That’s why, despite the fact that he’s moved more into love songs in a sense, he’s still known for the fast-talking vocals. You can leave trap but trap’s not going to leave you, and Big Soto is a perfect example of that. The night can get romantic, though, when he comes out singing “Toda Va A Estar Bien.” Then he’ll crash back down to earth with “Morena.”
Recent footage from an event in Madrid seems like the perfect precursor to what you can expect from Big Soto on Sunday, December 8th, at the Irving Plaza. At that event, the stage was right up next to a standing-room area. The venue looked more like a club than a theater. There were also people on the second level enjoying the show. Big Soto was not afraid to get up close and personal with the crowd. He’d point the mic over to the audience to signal it was time for them to take over the song! Most of the sections within the Irving Plaza are going to be available for this chilly December night. The main floor area could be where things are going to get the most interesting. If you want a bit more room to stretch your legs, pick a spot on the rail or the High-rise area. The Loft gives you a similar experience to the floor. You’re going to be close to Big Soto, but the location is usually not as crowded. Talk it over with your friends and decide what places suit you guys best.
